The Gold Rush to the Yukon brought thousands of people from the States, Canada and from countries as far away as Australia. In 1867, the U. S. purchased the territory from Russia for $7.2 million but it was not until 1959 that Alaska became the 49th State. During WWII the U. S. military built bases in Alaska and it became home to thousands of service people. By browsing the Anchorage News (on-line) it becomes evident that some Daltons married into the native clans, were assimilated into their culture and are prominent members of the clans today.
Alaska is the largest State in size and has the smallest population. Data for Daltons in Alaska begins with the Gold Rush applications for mining claims about 1896. There are 60 Dalton surname entries in this file and further research through the Dawson Museum is warranted if one appears to be a missing relative. Understandably no census was taken in 1880. The available coded enumeration for 1901 is included below. It is the onus of the user to verify the data.
